Twitter are reducing the length of Tweets – only for ones with links in starting from today Wednesday 20th Feb. This ‘new’ development in the Twitter-sphere was actually announced from Twitter’s development blog in December 2012 as a heads up for any developers.
The reduction in Tweet length is due to a change in Twitter’s t.co link wrapper. So, what’s changing is when you tweet out hyperlinks that Twitter shortens for you, those links will now take up a little more space. Thus reducing your tweet length slightly. t.co extends the maximum length of http links (most, standard links) from 20 to 22 characters. And for the https (secure links, such as https://www.Twitter.com) links from 21 to 23 characters.
So overall, we miss out on 2 characters. But will it change the way we all Tweet in future? Let us know what you think. Tweet us @beseenmktg
